Lloyd Wright was the eldest son of Frank Lloyd Wright and his first wife, Catherine Lee (Kitty) Tobin, and grew up in the 1889 Wright home and studio in Oak Park IL. Lloyd briefly attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison before leaving for a job at the landscape architecture firm of the Olmsted Brothers in Boston. Specializing in botany and horticulture, he continued to pursue landscape design in addition to architecture throughout his life. Hanna House,initially, was a Usonian design, but its numerous expansions over the 25years after it was built priced it beyond the means of middle-class Americans.

Sold in 2016 to the Craig Gosselin Trust. The Martha Taggart House, 2158 East Live Oak Drive, Los Angeles CA. Designed for the mother of Lloyd Wright's second wife, actress Helen Taggart. Lloyd Wright's son, Eric Lloyd Wright, completed an extensive remodel and won the 2006 Meliora Award for Best Restoration. Sold to Guy and Ashley Jacobs Shelmerdine.
Stanford University Hanna House
Located near an arboretum on the hillside of a two-acre property, the bold triangular geometry and signature cantilever of this home makes it Ann Arbor’s most architecturally significant residence. In 1903 heiress and social activist Susan Lawrence Dana commissioned Wright to remodel her family’s 1868 Italianate mansion to better suit her social ambition and extravagant entertaining needs. When Phyllis Laurent read an article about Loren Pope’s love for his Frank Lloyd Wright house in House Beautiful magazine, she knew she had found her architect. The only house Wright designed for a wheelchair-bound client. Completed in 1952, it predated the Americans with Disabilities Act by nearly four decades. This collaborative design of Wright and Sullivan rejected historical details common to Victorian architecture in favor of abstract forms.
The client went with a different architect. The C. Warwick and Lysabeth Evans House, Benmore Terrace, Los Angeles CA. Sold to the Daniel and Hilary McLoughin Trust. Wright also did some later modifications. Remodeled in 1984 by architect Matt Kilin and in 1991 by architect Harold Zellman.
Famous owners
Sold in 2023 to Burris Logan Eaton. Beginning in 1919, Lloyd Wright's famous father, working in Japan on the Imperial Hotel, delegated responsibilities for the Hollyhock House in Los Angeles to Lloyd and Rudolf Schindler. Lloyd also worked on the Millard House, the Storer House, the Freeman House, and the Ennis house for his father, plus the second and third band shells at the Hollywood Bowl. The third shell stood until the end of the 2003 season.
They include extensive documentation of the process of building the Hanna-Honeycomb House. It is open for tours by reservation only.[7] It is occasionally used for university functions such as seminars and receptions. In 1905 Cudworth Beye, whose family was friends with Wright, requested a design for a boathouse to serve the University of Wisconsin crew team. When S. P. “Pearl” Elam and his wife toured Taliesin in 1948, they told Wright’s chief draftsman, John Howe, that they were interested in building a home.. He settled in southern California around 1911. The Olmsteds sent him to assist with landscape design of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition in San Diego with architects Irving Gill, Bertram Goodhue, and Carleton Winslow. The exposition's principal buildings and gardens still remain in Balboa Park, and Gill became his mentor. Wright’s desire to secure a public structure in Madison was a life-long labor of love, Wright was paid $250 in exchange for roughly 63,000 hours of staff time toward the project over a span of 21 years.
