It was designed in 1911 by landscape architect Ralph D. Cornell, the then college-age California newcomer who would go on to design the grounds of UCLA, the La Brea Tar Pits and the University of Hawaii. And because this contemporary art-packed park lets you nosh next to Yayoi Kasuma tulips or Magdalena Abakonowicz’s sitting figure, we chose it as the best picnic spot for art lovers. In more than a decade of Los Angeles living, I've determined that the best meals in this town are eaten under the sun or the stars. And since every night isn't an occasion that merits the patio at Spago, that leaves a lot of space to develop a strong picnic game. And while out-of-towners might assume a picnic simply involves a delish portable meal on a blanket on a green lawn, we Angelenos know better.
